Tried a simple unscientific yet interesting test of "rust prevention" sprays. After moving several hundred large round bales of hay, my carbon steel hay spears are bright polished. They will rust overnight it seems after use. After the spring hay season, I tried RemOil rust preventor, CLP, Kroil (not really advertised as a rust preventor), Miltec greese, Hoppes elite, shooters choice gun oil, and WD40 Specialists corrosion inhibitor. All have rusted but the WD40 Specialist - to this day (3 months) while exposed to dew, rain, sun etc. it has not allowed the polished steel to rust. Its going on all my guns!

I'll hAve to try the wd40 speci all specialist, the regular wd40 seems to evaporate rather quickly.

Remember, the WD-40 Specialist leaves a cloudy bluish film after it "dries" after application. Regular WD-40 does not. Regular WD-40 was rated very highly in Brownell's rust prevention test.

You can see the bluish film on the rebar after he sprays it on before he covers it with the salt brine solution at 6:00 into this video.

I've used synthetic motor oil for years upon years 30 years plus, I have no rust.

And I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night either.

I used John Deere soft black spray paint for farm equipment I didn't want to rust. Scrubs right off once you put the plow back in the ground next season, too.

WD-40® SPECIALIST® RUST RELEASE PENETRANT SPRAY worked for me when KROIL didn't. Vehicle rear lock sized, sprayed Kroil for 3 week , put key in and hammered slightly and nothing. Tried the mentioned and left overnight. The next morning the lock worked and has for a year.

I have used G96 gun lube on machined iron engine blocks/heads that were left outside under a tarp for the winter. No rust. Spray/wipe done.

I soak all of my firearms out of the box when new.Never any rust.

+ 1. Been using it for years on my guns and highly recommend it. Never had one to get any rust on it. Smells good too!

Never had a reason to switch out from the G96.

I have been impressed by Fluid Film on a carbon steel knife that lives in my garage, which faces humidity and temperature extremes from 0F to 100F. I have some guns that I don't shoot often, so I will try the FF on the bores.

Here are my recommendations for firearms rust prevention products in no particular order:

1. Corrosion-X
2. Fluid film
3. Eezox

I have tried an experiment. I carry a 380 in the warm months and it is a two tone gun. So the slide is matte blue. I have tried some Collinite 845 wax on the exterior of the slide. I have a tendency to sweat pretty good on warm days and I carry inside waist band. So the gun gets exposed to that harsh enviornment and so far its holding up pretty well.

I checked my local Walmart for the WD-40 Specialist corrosion inhibitor, and it is $11.83 for a can of 6.5 oz. I had to pass at that price. I will have to finish the bottle of CorrosionX I am using now before I buy anything else.

Think I will try some of that FrogLube CLP next go around since I will use it for lubrication and for corrosion prevention.

I tried to use Eezox over 10 years ago, and the smell of that stuff makes me sick.
