a friend has a 1995 ford escort with weak battery. Rural King has a 75/dt60 Exids on sale for $50. Any chance it will fit? I get varying responses. A new battery might well outlast the car, and they have a GM side terminal in the family. BTW Rural King seem to have good prices, incl. AGM Batteries. Thanks.

Have to get out a tape measure and measure to find out.
The $50.RK special would probably be fine for that car.

As a reference, this is what the negative OE setup no the Escort is supposed to look like (ground node circled):

Important, since if you don't do this right, a lot of stuff won't work properly.

And now that I have had more time to think about it, I don't see why you couldn't do this. Besides a 1995 Escort, I also have a V6 Alero which I think uses a group 75 battery. Electrically and size wise it should fit. Just not sure I would want to do the work. If it were a group 75 DT (which is what I have in my Alero) that might be easier.

You can buy post adapters to screw into a GM battery to fit Fords, or lop off the Ford ends and put GM whozits on there.

If the 75 has top terminals, it's a [censored] 75 and you just want to make sure the polarity lines up with the cables, they won't have much slack.

At the end of the day, you'll still have an Exide, so it'll be an exciting race to see whether it or the Escort expire first.

reason for type 75 DT is to reuse the battery when this car dies which may be soon. And, thats a good price. ALSO I have a dual terminal battery in a V6 Dakota, which fits fine. Having side terminals as well makes it popular at work as I can readily jump other cars from the side terminals, rather than trying to make good contact from a tangle of top wires.

Looks like the group 75 is the same length, 3/16" wider and is shorter by 3/8ths.

Group----L-------W-------H--------L-------W-------H
35 230mm 175mm 225mm 9 1/16 6 7/8 8 7/8
73 230mm 179mm 216mm 9 1/16 7 1/16 8 1/2

But the polarity of the terminals is reversed 35 is R/H positive, the 75 is L/H positive.

Actually the reason I have a dual terminal in my Alero is I want to replace the battery cables with slightly longer top post style cables and just use the top post. I hate the side posts.
