Quote:
On August 27, 2015, the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found aircraft wreckage in a remote area near the town of Kapuskasing.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Aviation Services attended the scene located southwest of Kapuskasing where they verified the presence of a single engine aircraft. Initial investigation has confirmed the wreckage to be that of a plane reported missing in April of 1992.

On April 28, 1992, Paul and Suzanne Joanis were travelling in their single engine aircraft from Buttonville Airport in Toronto to Hearst, Ontario when contact was lost with their plane approximately 30 nautical miles south of Kapuskasing. At that time, an extensive search was undertaken involving Joint Rescue Coordination Centre , the OPP and local volunteers.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and Regional Coroner’s office have been notified and will be assisting in the investigation.

At least it was eventually found so there can be some closure for the family.

I'm curious to see if pics of the wreckage will surface.

Wow, it's amazing that crashed aircraft can never be found, or found decades later.

Canada is REALLY BIG, and if you get more than a couple hundred miles from the US Border REEAALLLY Sparsely populated.

LOTS of untouched wilderness.

If you ever saw what happens when a small plane crashes, you would see what looks like torn up aluminum foil. The engine often buries itself, and the wings and fuselage can turn into pieces no more than a foot square. Easy to miss.

I've hunted near there. It's more remote than anyplace I've ever been, and the timber is thicker than anyplace I've ever been. It's a truely amazing area.

Edit, I've never been to S America, but I've been deep in the Rockies backcountry.

In the links was mentioned a yet undiscovered 1947 loss of an aircraft.

If I read and interpreted correctly there was an early blip on the fact line to the effect that the '47 Beaver crash had been discovered. It seems both planes were red or highlighted in red.

ERGO the plane from 68 years ago still may have just been stolen. Kira

I recall that a pair of F/B-111 Aardvarks just...vanished...in the early 70's...on an exercise over the Baltic, they just disappeared without a trace.
