So I've decided to try and locate the first car I purchased when I turned 18. It's nothing fancy or exotic, just a '91 Escort GT that I loved dearly. I sold the car around 2000 with about 150,000 trouble free miles on it. Regretting that decision now.

I dug through some old paperwork and located the VIN. Problem is I don't know where to go from there. I've tried typing the VIN in Google but no luck. I can't remember the name of the guy I sold it to so unfortunately I can't trace through him.

Input from anyone who has been down this road would be appreciated.

You never know,it could still be around. My gf's old Probe is still buzzing around her parents' neighborhood haha, she'd sold it to one of their neighbors. And it literally buzzes, that car sounds like a bee while it's running haha.

Try and get the name of the guy from the DMv or a police friend. It's the only way to track it.

Prior the passage of privacy laws many states would issue a title history for a small fee, but that's shot to [censored] now(I got one in '92 on a car I still own from the '60s)... There could be a Carfax on it(generally DMV registrations are reported), but most surefire way is have a law officer check it out...

You're in luck!! A website exists to do just that...

checkmyride.com

I've used it before and it works.

Yup. It was 9 years old when you got rid of it......It is 24 years old, if it hasn't been melted down into Toyotas. Very unlikely there is much worthwhile left.

I have not seen one of the older Ford Escorts in quite some time. They were a disposable car.

ahh the crusher??? Don't do it, even if you find it, you're not going to like what you see. Kind of like finding your birth mother if you are adopted....

What if you did a carfax? It would give you at least the latest title action, if not some registration and other info. If nothing recent its probably an I beam and a soda can in China now...

If it had 150,000 miles 15 years ago, unless it were driven 100 miles a year since then it probably doesn't run.

If you have the VIN, run a Carfax on it. It may list any service that's been done on it recently, and where the service was performed..

... Or if it was totaled in a collision, etc..

I had a blue '91 Escort GT. 199k trouble free miles except for a power steering hose, A/C clutch and catalytic converter. I used it to tow my race bikes around the U.S.

It was my first brand new car. I sold it in '96. 199k in 5 years.

No kidding. I didn't know the mod'ers loved to get those until I started searching for mine.

Who cares, whether you believe it is around or not ?? Or worth locating ??

The question was: how would he go about locating said vehicle?

This site is becoming quite boorish.
