Oils are much better now than 15-20 years ago when 3k was the time to change the oil.
You are new here so read up on the different oil info available here.
Rule of thumb:
Conventional oil-5000 miles
Synthetic oil-10000 to 15000 miles
I grew up on 3 months or 3000 miles but have since learned alot
ill do that. Ill have to learn to navigate around this sight.

Does the UOA show all the varnish accumulation and other filthy grime in the engine?

It's threads like this that make me want to run out and change my oil.

1) Changing your oil at 5000 miles is like buying a decent bottle of wine, drinking a couple of glasses and then pouring the rest down the sink...
2) Oil is meant to turn black. If you go to a really posh restaurant and had a really well presented meal, you wouldn't expect it to 're-emerge' the next day looking quite so beautiful would you?

I have a dream...that one day...oils of all viscosity grades...conventional and synthetic...will be judged, not by the colour of the dipstick at 5000 miles...but by the content of their additive package...

Why do you as-su-me there is varnish and grime in the engine simply due to an extended OCI?
