This is my follow up to my 1st UOA on this Focus :

Blackstone Comments:
Your engine handled this longer oil run with ease. Wear metals are largely unchanged since last time, and 5 ppm copper isn't a problem (4 ppm is average for these engines). The TBN was strong, showing active additive left in the oil. You may very well be able to run 15,000 miles on the oil without issue, but that's a bigger jump than we like to see from one oil change to the next. Our recommendation would be about 13,000 miles for the next fill.

I am not too worried about going longer, but I think I am safe to go 13k or a little more if I need to.

yep those engines are very easy on oil.
My 2007 the oil looked new at 5000 miles.

Duratec or Zetec?

duratec I believe

You may be able to go to 15K (TBN depletion is not linear) especially if you have to add any make-up oil. I went from 10K to 15K without any issues, but I understand that Blackstone wants to be a little conservative in their recommendation.

Have you always used M1 or M1EP? There is a little sodium that is slowly washing out. Otherwise, it looks very normal (which is a good thing).

I bought it with 93k on it and got 2 free oil changes from the dealer. They used Motorcraft 5W20 blend, so maybe that had some in it. Switched over to EP 0W20 after the free oil changes. So far I haven't had to add any oil between changes.

What was the oil from that oldest sample? Different or just much lower mileage? Looks like a stouter oil and also less wear overall.

Both were M1 EP 0W20. The only thing that got worse is copper, but that could be noise too. What makes you think the old sample did better? It had about 1300 less miles on the old sample.

It was my misunderstanding initially of what the columns were. I had thought on first seeing them that the columns were all tests. Not used to seeing the Blackstone reports transcribed I suppose. My apologies for the interruption.

I have been doing 10K OCIs with 0-20AFE for several years now with great results, however I don't do UOAs.

Nice.

Another validation (in my mind) that TBNs are not worth doing. I have yet to see a sample with a failed TBN

I don't know how many more if any I will do. I just wanted proof that I could go 10 - 12K and not worry about it with this engine. It is good to have a little leeway to go a few extra miles when it is below zero in the winter and I want to wait for a warmer day or something.
