Can't take credit for this one but passing it along:

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and
Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department
of the Interior, asks us "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."

Their stated reason for the policy is because,
"The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony...

I'd actually rather feed the animals than the deadbeats. The deadbeats can starve for all I care.

They won't starve. They will steal what they need.

Food stamps come from the government. That means they are free because someone else foots the bill, not the recipients. Our government has done such a good job expanding the program during the current administration that they've doubled the number of people on food stamps. Just think, if they put everyone on food stamps then no one will have to pay for their food. Isn't that how it works?

So because a person needs help from the state. It makes that persom bad People, Who deserves to starve? Or am i missing the point?

At a minimum narrow the list of food items they can buy to healthy items. That way they don't look and feel like [censored]. They would complain about that but it sure beats starving.

You must be a Republican. Are you a member of the 1% club too or are you just selfish? This is not irony. This is a Republican political view that's typical of today's Republicans--total selfishness and greed. It's a disgrace for anyone in this country to be hungry whether they work or not given the amount of wealth existing in the country. I don't begrudge anyone food stamps. Ever. Period. I also don't cringe at the idea of paying taxes either because I can see that government does provide some very essential services which benefit everyone. Did you oppose the GI bill as well because it was a "handout?" Are you opposed to Social Security as well because it is "redistributive"? Of course, you're definitely entitled to your opinion. I'll bet you're against Obamacare as well, right?

My comment was intended to relate to true opportunists. I do not object to helping those in need. There are many accomplishments we can be proud of in this country. There are also, unfortunately, many things we can improve.

I interpret a lot of right wing rhetoric as something akin to survival of the fittest. I wonder what things would look like if we went down that path.

I'd rather feed the deadbeats to the animals. 2 problems solved, 1 solution.

I like the way you are thinking.

You need to be standing in checkout line when one of these parasites is buying shrimp, steak, high priced frozen prepared entrees and paying with your hard earned money (via "food stamps") when your cart has generic corn flakes, cans of tuna, some peanut butter, a lb of ground beef, and a loaf of bread. Witness that scene a few times (because it happens a thousand times a day) and maybe you will get a new appreciation for the food stamp crowd.

Now that one person just HAD to make this a political issue....

Thanks. Another person and his valuable opinion has been added to the ignore list.

Everyone in America deserves food, shelter and basic medical care despite how they have screwed up their life. Its a basic safety net that should be available to everyone.

Its not a Democratic or Republican or even a religious (but Jesus would feed the starving) its a human decency thing. Don't let the person next to you starve when you have extra food or extra money (in the form of taxes) to provide food stamps so he can eat. A lot of these people are children who are dependent upon their parents (or mother) for food. They cannot go out a get a job to buy food when they are 5 yrs old.

When a country needs to feed such a great part of it's population. It will allways be about politics. When 46 million People is on food stamps. The politicians have failed.

Who's more successful at bribing politicians into food stamp programs, the dirt poor or big agribusiness?
whistle.gif

It's like asking who's better off when Section 8 gives a $50/mo cost of living adjustment, the tenants who suddenly can move across town to swanky digs, or the slumlords who still have the same mortgage and tenant pool they did yesterday?

I had someone with a huge shopping cart full of fruit loops, potato chips, Chips a hoy etc...over flowing cart. I had one item and thought it was odd she didn't say I could go ahead of her. Then the food stamp card comes out.

In this crowd, food stamps and Obamacare are evil.

But.....Keep your hands off their medicare and SS. Interesting how conservatives are very selective about what socialism they choose to accept.
