ballast headlights Accura TL

Hi,
My sons accura tl (2003) headlight went out.He is in another state. The shop put in a bulb but said it needed a ballast for 179 or it would keep failing.

Any thoughs? I will be there in 30 days and can do easy stuff. Is it accessible? Any tricks?

OEM ballasts are often built in to the headlight assembly.

You might want to contact someone like Steve at Xenon Depot and look into how to retrofit an aftermarket ballast.

The question really becomes how tough it is to access. You might use the Honda/Acura E-store, which is a great way to see a lot of the OE parts diagrams for free.

The retrofit source has the exact same OEM ballasts Mitsubishi gen IV refurbished and warrantied for $200 a pair. An alternate would be the Morimoto ballasts for $110, extremely reliable as well.
Best to replace both ballasts at the same time if you can.
The other consideration is wether that shop quote of $179 included install. If it does, it might just be a decent price to avoid the hassle altogether....
