I added a quart of Mobil 1 0w-40 on my last change cause I didn't have access to 10w-60 and knew I was going to use Mobil 1 0w-40 on my next oil change. Only ran with that stuff for a week before I changed my oil. Any insights would be appreciated. I'm most concerned with my rod bearing wear which I'm told are observed in my Lead and Copper Levels. I'm troubled that I went less than half the distance but my lead number was identical to my previous analysis. Also Copper is the same as well.

Does this car spec 10w60 or do you drive hard? if the car can use 10w60 in this weather i say use it. 0w40 m1 is a good oil though too.

It specs 10w-60. In Seattle area temps haven't been too bad.

both changes have been 10w-60. I never go north of 4k rpm on cold engine. Redline is around 8200 rpm.

I'm intrigued about oil consumption with Mobil 1 0w40. I know quite a few people with BMW V8s that see oil consumption with M1 0w40. Let me know if you have any consumption with this oil in your M3.

I know a few guys who own 7 series BMW that complain about oil consumption using M1 0w40 as well as my brother in law who used to use it. There are a few guys on bimmerfest that I chat with that also complain about it. You can Google Mobil 1 0w40 oil consumption and see what you pull up.

Most S62 owners seem to have no issues (based on the posts on M5board). Consumption is what it is with that engine, the post 03/00 engines (the low consumers) seem to consume no more of it than they do anything else.
