Love those old recips, we have an Air Attack Base here at our airport, when I was growing up we would ride out and watch all those old planes come and go when fighting a fire, fF7F's, TBM's, C-119's, B-17's, P2V's and the list goes on

Be nice to see on of those crates with a turboprop conversion such as is done to DC3/C47s. It would, I suspect, increase the chances of a "good landing".

I lived near Mitchell Field in Milwaukee as a kid, and I remember seeing C-119's all the time. The Flying Boxcar.

Indeed. I guess there are enough serviceable;e Lockheed Electras which are comparable to the DC-7 but originally came with turboprops, for firefighting.

We had the C-119 A/C in Minneapolis, too. I can't think that maintaining those old radials is easy/economical these days, but love to hear them flying around.
