My motor mounts were shot in this car. Engine was even clunking around in there. Today I had the new ones installed. I’m strapped for cash so my mechanic was cool with me ordering them on line through rock auto. He warned me however that if I get cheap ones I still will get some vibration from them. Personally, I don’t really care as long as the engine is secured. Today I picked up the car and just like he said, I’m getting some vibration. He said that’s what happens when you use 40.00 mounts vs the 100.00 ones. I think there is some truth to that, but I’m ok with this. What I want to know is have any of you ever experience this same thing when using cheaper mounts? And if so, do they break in over time to where I will get less vibration?

LOL... well...that basically means I can expect the vibration to remain the same. oh well. Shouldn't be hurting anything at least, right?

I wonder if the mounts are the source of your vibration. I have changed the motor mounts three times on my Sentra (2L, SE-R). The first two times were due to hard starts and hard shifts. Age got the right side one last year (crack in air bladder). In no case did that cause a vibration, only an ugly gronch when backing up. Were you lucky enough to have the 2.0 engine in your 2001? When is the vibration present?

Yes. I have the 2.0. The vibration is mainly noticeable at idle or as I'm about to come to a stop

I changed the motor mounts in a Ford Focus today. Still vibrates, but is better. Used aftermarket parts.

My grandmother had the motor mounts replaced in her Trailblazer. Was silky smooth for a couple months then the vibration came back.

OEM only from here on out now.

Ok. I need a shrink. I'm really getting [censored] off with this car. With these new mounts at idle when I come to a stop with my foot on the brake I can feel and hear a fast tapping noise that is consistent with the idle speed. These are brand new mounts but if it's doing that it HAS to be metal on metal contact right?

There are 3 mounts. One in front and one on each side. Tne driver side one is down lower and it is the transmission mount. I'm going to take it back to my mechanic so he can hear it and feel it and if he says that'sbecause they are cheap aftermarket mounts I swear to god I'm going to burn this car to the ground. It's been nothing but trouble

That pretty much overcomes my doubts, it's the mount(s). Seems odd they would all go at once though. The diagram I am looking at shows four mounts, not three. Also shown is a damper assembly under the engine on the crossmember. Maybe I'm blind but do this. Call Courtesy Nissan in Dallas ( courtesyparts.com ) and tell parts you're going to replace all the mounts and the damper and to tell you what parts are needed to do that. If they can't tell you right away then have them email you a quote. That damper assembly is something mine does not have and the mounts are somewhat different as well. Talk to those guys or the Nissan dealer of your choice and pin this down. Maybe it's just the damper (no false hope though).

I live in bloomington illinois. I've made it to st louis in 2.5 hours. It's not far. I go there twice a year to hit up my favorite microbreweries

By the way. I think there is some confusion. The brand new mounts are indtalled. They were put on today.

I dropped the d a m n car back off at my mechanic. I left a box of matches on the glove box as a last resort hoping that will definitely stop the noise. I told him I expected some vibration from brand new aftermarket mounts but it vibrates like a top fuel dragster right before launch. its ridiculous.

I had one of the engine mounts on the Focus replaced under warranty in October. It is fluid filled and does an amazing job. But they fail.

In late October, I got the great idea to install a polyurethane transmission "dogbone" mount. The vibrations ... wow!

Well that's great. Accept this car has a ghost in it. Actually, more like a demon in it. Ever since I purchased this thing it squeaks and groans like a person on their death bed. I know its not a Mercedes Benz but I've driven farm trucks and cars (old beater types) that are quieter.

Understand you have done it already. I just know a good specialist in STL that might be better able to diagnose.

At any rate, have your guy check for the damper under the engine on the crossmember. Nissan put it there for some reason and "damper" gives a pretty good description of what for. Just because Rock Auto does not reference the part doesn't mean it isn't there. And, like I said before, the shop manual outtake shows four motor mounts for the 2001 year. Did your guy miss one, say the one under the firewall for instance?

This particular model does not have a damper. some of them did and some didn't of this model year. but that was good for me to know to check out.

On my old Dodge, I have to replace the mounts every 3-4 years as they are trouble prone.I have found OEM provided a smoother engine and lasted longer. Aftermarket ones were either made in India or China (mostly Anchor)were pure junk and lasted about a year and made the whole car shake. I'm not sure about Nissan but on Chrysler's you had to "center" the engine again, so you might want to check if you have to do some tweakin on your Nissan.
