did a oops changing oil

I don't clean them. I set my extractor up on a garbage can for a few hours and let the tube clean itself by letting it drain into a 5 gallon can that I take to the disposal center. Works great and my extractor was super fast and it got it all out. Very nice.
But I do get your point too. I still have trouble as I'm an OCD checker and its just not right not putting back the end plug.

But if you go 2x on oil filters its really the bomb

Extract.
Clean the extraction tubes
Still need to pour oil into a *container* to drop off, etc

I'd rather just drop the bolt and drain anyday, everyday

I suggest, that say your car calls for 6qts, go ahead and pour in five, start 'er up, settle down, then check the dipstick and add up to all of the sixth quart.

You must be getting pretty good, seeing how you are changing oil in your sleep.
