I was reading in the owners manual and recommends 10w30 but you can use 30wt above 50 something degrees which I won't be mowing in that cool of weather. I used mobil super 10w30 and purlator filter I've got bout 10 hours on the oil and it's down middle ways on dip stick. I'm think about putting a 30wt oil either supertech or kohler oil.which would you use or keep what I got in it? Thanks

The OEM change interval is 50 hours, so I would not change now, just add to top off and keep going on the current oil.

The Kohler brand oil I've seen is expensive. Supertech would be a good substitute. Another excellent low cost oil for your Kohler is Rotella T5 10w-30, about $16 per gallon at Walmart. No worries about running 50 hours on T5.

SuperTech SAE30 should cut down on consumption. And so will using synthetic 10W30. I'd try synthetic 10W30 first and see how you like it.

If you are mowing in warm weather, use the straight 30, there is no advantange going with a multi weight. Supertech is what I use.

I disagree, your multi weight is still thinner at start up than straight weight is. You will still have better start up protection. Going synthetic or even a 15w40 would be better than a straight weight oil.

At lower temps, you are correct but at summer temps I do not believe using straight 30 would be an issue. At 70+ degrees, it flows very easily, doubtful that any part would be starved for oil .Oil consumption would decrease as well.
