I drive a 2005 chevy cobalt and am looking to add an inline transmission filter to the return line coming back from the cooler. Ive searched around and cant get a definitive answer to which line is the return line. One site says its the one coming from the top of the cooler, others say the bottom. The car uses the 4t45e transmission. Is there an easy way to tell which is which? Thank you for any help you guys have to offer.

We remove the return ATF lines for doing transmission bucket flushes. Our GM's do have the return line coming out at the top side of the radiators. We just did the 2002 Ram 1500 with the 5.9L gas engine and the 2000 Town Car transmission bucket flushes. Both that lines at the top but it was the lower of the two line on each that were the return ATF lines that we connected a clear plastic hose and placed it into an empty 5 gallon oil can then started the engines to remove most all of the 12 or so quarts of old ATF.

Easiest way to tell flow direction is to remove one line and start the engine, see which way the ATF spurts out.
