Its all over the news, just google MH370 debris 777
Only one piece, and maybe its actually from a Russian plane or something instead.
We need some light shed on that totally bizarre case!

Yeah, Boeing people are saying its a 777 part there. And its so rare for a 777 to go missing, you can bet its MH370

Agreed.
Boeing, Airbus and the Russians all build their planes in very different ways. Even the casual traveler will notice this if he pays attention.
There is no mistaking the construction details used by different builders.
Even the alloys used are often different.

I believe the 777 flaperon is mostly made from composites, which could explain the ragged look where the trailing edge was torn away. And presumably explain how it managed to float for a year.

There's a map of ocean currents on Wikipedia which shows the current from west of Perth where the plane is thought to have crashed going right past this island. Though it could be that someone faked it and uploaded it there today

It's all psychological, but finding something brings a little closure. Finding zilch was never acceptable.

The macro-Gyre ocean currents send stuff east to west, a little north too at first.

If the damage allows them to determine whether it crashed or ditched, that could make a huge difference to the search area. A crash is probably close to the final 'ping', whereas ditching could be 100km away if someone was still on board capable of gliding it in.

ditching makes more sense with the MO of the pilot.

Interesting, so after getting what was needed off it it was pushed off the edge of Diego Garcia after all.

I think there's a good chance of backtracking the currents which moved the piece and searching along the path. Other pieces of similar size and weight ought to start turning up.
