Mobil 1 Extended Performance vs. Wix oil filters

ZeeOSix, The M1 oil filter marketing tech writer screwed up.
Not a Watergate scandal here. Merely, he should have been more clear. The M1 oil filter is a blend of synth and cellulose fibers like ToughGuard and Extended Guard Fram oil filters are too.
Wix and napaGold are blends as well.

Apparently ... fire him! LoL

So what official information do you have that says otherwise?

In the section I linked to, this is what Mobil says:
"Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filters combine a mixture of synthetic microfibers and natural fibers to produce a highly efficient oil filter."

When they says contains synthetic fibers it is correct, doesn't say what percentage.

It says nothing about a blended media in their statment. The way it reads, it could easily be interpreed as a full synthetic media, which I think it is unless I see more clearly written words saying it's a blend.

Does ExxonMobil make oil filters for use with Mobil 1™?
"ExxonMobil offers Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filters – a very high-quality oil filter that can be used with any motor oil. It contains synthetic fibers instead of the typical cellulose filter media. With maximum capacity at 99.9 percent efficiency*, the Mobil 1 filter is much more efficient than a typical economy oil filter, removing more particles per pass through the filter. The filter holds and removes 300 percent more dirt versus an economy filter brand*. In addition, the synthetic fibers in the Mobil 1 oil filter have less resistance to oil flow, reducing the potential for the filter to restrict the flow of oil to your engine. The Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters is an especially appropriate companion to Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, if you want the best protection available for your engine."

To add, Mobil says:
"With maximum capacity at 99.9 percent efficiency*

*ISO 4548-12 test procedure M1-301"

They say nothing about at micron level the ISO 4548-12 came in at 99.9% efficiency. Is that buried someplace else too?

You didn't click on the topic, it says more.

Aaaah ... it's in a different FAQ topic. I see they are not consistant in their write-up about the media. The other FAQ topic says:

"Most conventional oil filters use a filter medium that is made of cellulose – typically wood fiber – and polyester fibers. Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filters combine a mixture of synthetic microfibers and natural fibers to produce a highly efficient oil filter."

They are still more efficient than Wix / Napa Gold, afaik.

IIIRC, @2010_FX4 had a series of UOAs which consistently showed his truck had lower insols when running the M1 EP oil filter instead of one of Amsoil's EaO. Maybe he can chime in? It was noted which oil filter was used with each UOA/OCI in a larger spreadsheet he created and maintained.

Unless there's data showing a change in the M1 filter construction this should still be valid for M1 even though some of the "made for" filters have changed manufacturers. As shown here the current M1 site still indicates blended media. 99.6% efficiency @ 25 microns, ISO 4548-12 test protocol
