Wanting to change hydro oil in my Zero Turn, Badboy Outlaw. Hydrogear said they use standard engine oil 20w-50w in the ZT5400 Hydro's. (Mobil 1) I can not find it no where, I can find the motorcycle oil..is that the same?

Some WallyWorlds still carry 15W/50 Mobil 1 in 5 quart jugs. You can check on the Mobil site. I cannot see any reason it would not fill the 20W/50 need.

Valvoline and Mobil 1 both make motorcycle 20W/50. WallyWorld often has quarts of the Mobil 1 "Vee Twin". Not much different than the bread and butter 15W/50.

Define "not much different"...

Mobil 1 15w-50:

125 cSt @ 40°C
18 cSt @ 100°C
P - 1200ppm
Zn - 1300ppm

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50:

172.3 cSt @ 40°C
20.8 cSt @ 100°C
P - 1600ppm
Zn - 1750ppm

How hot's the sump in a hot runnin' hog get? Lets say an EVO in traffic at the beach with a little cam and straight pipes and not too rich on the jet?

Lots of 20w50 options out there in conventional. Walmart has at least 3, Castrol, Valvoline, QS.

Amsoil has a 20w50 synthetic

Then there is M1 15w50, which Walmart should have too, if not an auto parts store will.

I also bought a zero turn with Hydro Gears. I also called Hydrogear and they said to use regular 20w50 engine oil.

I have used
1. Mobile 1 15w50 - 2 years -it was ok but I noticed more hydraulic pump whine
2. Valvoline 20w50 motorcycle oil - i year - it was ok but you could tell it was a thicker oil and the pumps were a little slower
3. Napa 20w50 - 2 years - It is on sale now for 1.99 quart. I will continue to use regular 20w50 like Hydrogear says. It performs good with very little pump whine.

I personally am not going to leave the oil in for 500 hours so I don't worry about the synthetic. I had rather change out more often and have clean oil in the pumps.
