Mixing two multi-grade engine oils especially of different brands is not a best practice, and has been discussed to death on BITOG.
Blending a multi-grade with a mono-grade of the same brand should bring predicitable results, but I would check first with the oil company if I had any doubts to a possible antagonstic additive problem.
The approximate result of blending 1640 and M1 0W40 together is not a fool's errand, like the TGMO/M1 "Caterham" affair, with the following:
40c 98
100C 14.0
HTHS >4.0
SA 1.35
TBN 11.3
ZDDP >1400
Phos >1200
Flash >240C
The above looks like a 10W40 give or take.
Another predictable option would be to blend 0W40 and either 1630 or 1330 together.
The question remains, does blending two multi-grade engine oils give predictable results, including NOACK and sustained performance over the OCI interval (ageing)?
Like it or not, (or like me or not) my blend will more likely result in an oil that will lubricate and protect the engine, than the 0W20/0W40 blend will.
