Weston Price nailed it decades ago, when trying to work out why certain cultures had great dental health, while western cultures were hopeless.

There's a lot less money for corporations under the ideal dental health regime, so we need to treat decay as "normal", then find another treatment when it does occur.
 
I bet dental insurance won't cover it! my daughter is scheduled for a filling on 7/17!
 
I was at the dentist the other day, and one of this area's finest came in while chewing tobacco. He spit it out in his bottle, got his teeth cleaned, and was chewing again before he left the office. Whatever dental hygienists are paid isn't enough.
