I just changed the oil in a 4.6L Sport Trac, and found the oil drained cleanly, but the filter drainage had some metal flakes, mostly copper colored. Religiously use 5w20 Motorcraft oil/filter every 5k. 108k on motor/2008MY.

I have seen this before in another car, which has put another 30k since that occurrence. How normal/abnormal is this?

Any metal is never a good sign. I would definitely do a UOA at 3000 miles on the next fill. Then decide on a fix or trade strategy

Hard to say exactly other than if you do an engine tear down and inspection.
