Hello,
Been a while since my last inquiry. I have a 2008 MB SL 550. OCI by computer lists 13000. Typically change at 10,000 as part of A and B service. MB dealer has previously used Mobil One 0-40, and at 95k, no oil or motor issues.
Recent service invoice lists Genuine Mercedes Benz... where the oil liters usually is.
I searched MB oil on this site prior to this post. Internet search for MB oil was non descript. I can assume that this oil is manufactured by an oil company.
Was pleased with Mobil one gas mileage and performance. BMW Castrol appeared to be quite dirty after limited miles in my 335i.
Any knowledge or experience with Mercedes Benz oil?
Warm Regards to the community
Robert

Honestly, I've never heard of genuine MB oil. Back when we had our 2008 C300, the dealers were either using Mobil1 Formula M 5w-40 or Valvoline 5w-40. It was really up to the dealer to choose which oil they used, as long as it met the required MB spec (229.5 for gasoline engines and 229.51 for diesels).

I used to run M1 0w-40 in the C300.

I wonder what Mercedes think of Mercedes oil since they "recommend Mobil 1"

Nothing that I have seen. The MBZ dealer across the street from my work seems to use M1 0W40 in everything. I've seen genuine Mercedes transmission and gear lubricant, but not engine oil.

I had all kinds of trouble from MB dealers.

"You can't change your own oil because you don't have the
special MB oil and we don't sell it over the counter".

So I asked the parts guy where all the empty 0W40 M1
drums came from. (he wouldn't sell me an oil filter)

After 6 more stories like that one, my 1st and last MB
(C240 2004) has come and gone.

My E350 has a sticker on that recommends Mobil 1. I've got some Castrol 0w40 also. I'm not too worried about it. Engine failure from using the "wrong" oil is very rare. Only reason people obsess so much about it is that it's about the only thing you can control on the car you own so people think they're babying their car when in reality it probably doesn't really matter as long as it gets changed on a regular basis.

Sounds like a Magnusson-Moss lawsuit right there. They should have supplied the oil for free...

My daughter had the car for a few years and the same thing
happened at the Vancouver MB dealer.

They want to sell $300.00 oil changes performed by trained
MB specialists, which takes years to become.

They wanted another $125.00 to program a 3rd key that I paid
over $200.00 for.
It programed it's self in 2 minutes.

They wouldn't warranty the front wheel bearings, because I
did my own maintenance.

If they had performed the oil changes, the technician
would have spotted the problem, preventing the bearing
failure.
There are many more stories.
I just nod my head, ok whatever you say, and leave.

I don't argue with them because for one, my time is too
valuable and I wouldn't want those memories.

If he was in Canada, that wouldn't fly, but, essentially, the rules are much the same. I'd have laughed at them, gotten OEM filters from Worldpac and 1/4 the price that the dealer provides, and oil straight from Imperial Oil.

That sounds like Germany where they include a packet of Vaseline right in the warranty book. You don't let the A holes change the oil and the fuel pump dies your on your own.

LOL

Independent dealer can do almost anything they want. MB dealers in So Cal never indicate they use MB oil only, actually they all use M1 0W40.

They probably make you pay extra for the dealership-only Genuine Mercedes Benz OEM Vaseline haha!

It's really too bad because I like the brand and feel
sorry for the engineers and workforce that design
and build the vehicles.

Funny thing is how people perceive you.
Drive into a parking lot in a $75,000 diesel pickup,
pulling a $100K boat and $30k worth of dirt bikes
in the box, and nobody bats an eye.

The next day in a 5 year old $45,000 Mercedes Benz,
and everyone thinks your wealthy.

Go figure.

True. My 15 years old E430 parks next to my daughter 2014 Accord, people thinks that my car is more expensive but actually it's about 1/3 the price of Accord.
