According to data from Consumer Reports’ 2014 Annual Auto Survey of owners of 498,900 vehicles from 2010 to 2014 model years, these 30 models have much higher rates of oil consumption overall than the average for their model years.

Then again, their stats methodology is very broad. They're looking at % of vehicles that needed a quart or more top up between oil changes. The Germans typically have longer oil change intervals (10K miles or so). Needing a quart of oil in 10K miles maybe isn't great, but I wouldn't necessarily call it excessive either.

Which cars need 10 quarts of oil between changes?

Well lets see...

A Toyota Matrix with 0W20 with an oci of 30,000 km might be on that list.
But the same matrix with 15W40 would be on the one quart list.

All those cars probably have low oil level warning sensors...everyone else has no idea they are driving around a quart low!

My 140k mile Club Sport has required a quart of oil every 2,500 miles or so since I bought it new back in November 1995. Big deal...
