I have http://www.amazon.com/CarproCam-Z06-Blac...rds=car+pro+cam

It's not the best, but it's not bad for it's purpose. Which, imo, is a documented set of eyes in the event of an accident. "1080P" video is clear enough to see what's going on. Only catch, it must be plugged in or it only lasts about 2 hours on the battery.

If you want great video, get a GoPro for several hundred dollars.

i mainly want to record traffic happenings and like the stealth of the dash cams which if i understand correctly turn on and off with the vehicle and also do a continuous record loop, which the go pro's may not, but the go pro's should have that great video your talking about.

thanks all, i have to think about this and please keep the thoughts coming

I'm using this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HD720P-DVR007-Car-Dash-Dashboard-Camera-Cam-Accident-Recorder-DVR-/310395030964?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:CA:3160

$39 + $3 shipping. Works great and doesn't distract with it's small dimensions. Start recording automatically each time I start the car... no input needed.

Great subject! I got a walmart $40 dash cam 7 months ago, and like it. Go to Walmart.com, search on Pilot Automotive Dash Cam and see the $39.97 one still for sale there. (Got mine in-store.)

I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LXRR7L4
Street Guardian SGZC12SG

A fair amount of the year I'll be driving to and from work in darkness and its night time performance is good (video looks brighter than what the eye captures, but license plates are not so good). I liked the idea of no battery inside, as a bad battery is usually cause for tossing something like this.

I have the world's cheapest dash cam. this one. I bought it on a lark ($15).

Had to buy a 32gb SD card, and it needed a new battery after a few months. It works surprisingly well, and the piece of mind is priceless. Needless to say, I'm in the market for a nicer unit.

I got two A118Cs, for about $80 each. They give a decent picture and are barely visible outside the car, though they still have some firmware bugs to fix.

With the wire cover installed, the front camera looks like an OEM install, rather than an addon.

(Yes, I'll wire the rear camera in properly one day, and get rid of the duct tape)

There's a Street Guardian version with the same basic design but higher-quality components, and I may replace the front camera with one of those and move the old one to the Civic.
