The fund seeks to raise 1.6 billion euros, the amount Greece owes the IMF for its next interest payment, due Tuesday.

Per his crowdfunding page, Feeny figures the 503 million people in the European Union need only pony up 6 euros each for a Greek Feta and Olive salad to solve the immediate debt crisis.

Those pledging 10 euros qualify for a voucher good for a bottle of ouzo, while those able to donate 25 euros qualify for a bottle of Greek wine.

By late Monday, more than 500 people had pledged a total of more than 8,000 euros, leaving just 1,599,992,000 euros to go.

Could this actually work? I don't think they got enough time. If you did accumulate that many Euros, how would you go about ensuring the debt gets paid? You just can't give it to Greece and EXPECT them to forward it to the Banksters..

Interesting...very interesting.

Don't think it will hit the full amount, but when you put it in in those terms...seems reasonable!

This will get political really fast, but hasn't this been Greece's problem all along, that they've been crowdfunded for decades?

I'm just surprised that anyone was actually foolish enough to actually donate. I guess P.T. Barnum was right. There is one born every minute.

I guess Margaret Thatcher was right regarding socialism.

Problem is especially the German taxpayer and a couple of other wealthy EU nations' taxpayers have already funded the crooks running Greece for a decade now, why any intelligent German, would donate one more penny to that money pit is beyond me. Let them reap what they sowed.

Germany is just as much to blame. They knew going in that Greece was a poor country and that the high value of the Euro (compared to their previous currency) would only hurt them.

Yet everyone was more then willing to lend them large amounts of money until the US housing market crash.

I'm not saying Greece had no hand in its fate yet when you look at a country that poor, with a 4 day work week and all the unfunded pensions its not hard to imagine this was going to happen.

Leading to 2008 people where all to pleased to lend Greece large amounts of money and very low interest rates. They should have stopped lending to them along time ago when Greece actually had a chance to cut corners and pay off its loans.

It's like giving a credit card to a 18 year who makes $12k a year but giving them a $20k limit.

@3800Series, I hate to say it but honestly MOST (not all) Greeks are incredibly lazy and unproductive, they don't like to put in long hours or work hard. The problem is not just the leaders in Greece it is the culture and people as well.

That's not a bad deal right there.

Unless it's some kind of euphemism!
