Right or wrong, this is my take on viscosity grades:
10W40 is an across the spectrum grade above 5W30,
ending at Dundee's 25W70.
Taking that into account and ignoring the baby steps,
the major scale will look like this:
0W16
5W20
10W30
15W40
20W50
25W60
With synthetics and/or the use of VIIs,
you add a minor scale with either the
W number going down, the SAE grade going
up, or both.
The catch is, that while playing the grade
game, HTHS sometimes goes in the opposite
direction that you intended it to go.
