Suggestions on the prep and priming work here

Truck in an 86 Toyota I got free. Its going to be a farm truck only. Need help on RUST removal, sanding, prep, priming to give it some help. Nothing elaborate or expensive. I'm going to rattle can it, just want some durability and protection. This is the worst of it on hood and top of cab. That is all I'm going to do. Thanks

Rust converter, then top coat with best quality rust paint you can get.

It won't look smooth, but it will look better.

If you're serious about getting rid of all the rust and having a good surface for paint you should consider looking at Rust Doctor.

I've used it with excellent results and old cars that otherwise looked hopeless. It's especially good on floor pans and small brackets and pieces. You'll get a nice smooth result and the rust will never come back. Watch the video all the way to the end.

Sand it down with an orbital saner then use Rust Mort on it. After it dries rattle can away.
