2001 outback with about 250K miles (newer engine/tranny) with grinding metal noise coming from the front end. I am unfortunately not the driver so that I am unable to take a look at it tonight and do any meaningful diagnosis.
Any idea of what it could be and if the car is safe to drive about 100 miles? A relative is currently stranded in the parking lot and is afraid to drive it.
My feeling it's the axle on its way out. What else could it be?
