I actually paid attention, reset the odo and got a receipt for my next fillup, and got a little better than 28mpg in the 96 Maxima. 2,870lbs with a 3.0 V6 and 5speed running Premium (10:1 compression and lots of timing). 99% highway.

My ciera 3.3 v-6 gets about 22 and 27 hwy, thats with the undersize tires on it that seem to help around town mileage( and its quicker accelerating.) With the stock tires it got 29 highway. This car has a 3spd trans , no overdrive.

I have a 93 Camry 2.2L/AT with 188k. In the warmer months average between 27-30 mpg depending on how much extra driving I do each week aside from my commute to work which is about 45 miles of mostly highway driving. I use 87 octane.

96 camry 1mzfe 251k

Just did a hwy trip - mostly 55 to 60 mph. Some 65 with a/c on, and a bit of city driving in Lacrosse, Wi.

34 mpg. Yeah, a 19 year old v6 delivered 34 mpg.

1992 GMC Sierra 1500 w/ L05 210HP 4L60/3.73 = 14.8mpg average over ~248,000 miles
vs.
2011 GMC Sierra 1500 w/ LMG 326HP 6L80E/3.42 = 14.7mpg average over ~58,250 miles

That's about the same as what my 13-year-old 530i gets in pure hwy driving. Mine weighs closer to 3,500 lbs though.

97' Accord Wagon -2.2 F22B1 - avg 25 mpg - 60 hwy/40 city mixed driving.

I have fond memories of my old '95 Maxima with a 5-speed swap.

My car isn't 15+ years old, but my previous car was: 1996 BMW M3. I got 18-20 mpg with mixed (and fairly aggressive) driving, and 24-26 with all highway. That's is more or less what it should have had per the EPA rating. It only started declining near the end, when the head gasket started failing noticeably. Just over 200k miles at that point, none of them easy...

I had a cousin who passed away a few months ago and I received his '98 3.0 V6/manual-trannied Ranger. With a passenger and quite a few items in the bed, it has done 24 mpg on two trips.

1997 Audi A4 quattro 1.8t 5m/t with 268k kms averaged 9L/100km or 26 US mpg on my last highway trip with a/c on averaging 120km/h which I think is pretty [censored] good.

My 1995 Club Sport averages 26 mpg in suburban driving, 32 mpg highway, and 16 mpg on the track. The only engine mod is a Turner/Conforti chip.
