I got tired of looking for a sun shade that would fit the non-standard shaped windshield on my new Kia Rio. What is available in walmart and pepboys is not satisfactory and would leave out gaping holes. This car is going to be used in a high heat geography. Not willing to shell out $50 for Covercraft, which would be the best fit. Now, i am considering this suggestion, after having taken a look at this material in Lowes today. The spec says it is about 7mm thickness. The only problem would be its tendency to roll-up after few uses and keeping it rolled up while in storage. So, i am contemplating a little DIY project of affixing this to a accordian style foldable material from Michael's to create a custom made windshield similiar to CoverCraft brand. I can use this idea for all my other cars too, since they all need replacement shades for summer.
What do you guys think ? Too much work and not worth it ? The alternative is to buy the Walmart stuff, and live with the gaping rectangle of about 3"x20" and take the hit on the dash and added heat inside car.
