Small belt 01 Sable Duratec motor

I have a small belt next to the battery on my 01 sable duratec engine. I have always wondered what this belt was for as my 98 duratec did not have this. Also I never see anything concerning maintenance with these. Anyone know what it is for?

It's a water pump belt. I have it on my 09 Milan and had it on o4 Taurus...Same 3.0 engine in both

Haha no. Its the water pump belt, it runs off the camshaft of the motor. I would kno because ive had 3 taurus/sables. Plus the taurus/sables are chain driven.

I knew it had a timing chain so I had no idea what this little belt was. My 98 did not have this and I guess you only replace it as it fails?
