Tilt steering column removal on 1971 Skylark

Sometimes dropping the column is easier than picking away at it. On a 71 skylark you should have room to unbolt it from the box and yank it on out of there.

Generally the torx screws at the tilt mechanism back out, and the only way at them is to dismantle everything in the "tunnel" down to that point. I've done it twice, my high beams haven't worked either time.

There are, surprise, tons of youtube videos on the subject.

I don't know if 71 predates impact absorbing columns and they're radically different. If you do have impact absorbing stuff don't whale on it.

Even if you drop your column you may have to dismantle it partially to get wiring out.

'67 was the first year for GM energy absorbing columns so the '71 definitely has it.
