nice read. about the same as the book i had when i went to collage though. i would think they would at least touch on the variable oil pumps.

In high school while I was rebuilding an engine it took me a while and some messing around to figure out that the oil in a gear rotor oil pump with the gears side by side forced the oil around the outside of the rotors and into the engine. That taught me that simple is good when it comes to design.

Reminds me of 40+ years ago when I had my oral test from the FAA examirer for my Powerplant rating. He asked me to explain the oil path thru a gear type pump. I thought that was self evident and said between the gears. He said 'which gears' and to show on a diagram-so I showed between the wide space between the teeth around the outside, but it seems that many students would point to the area where the teeth meshed?!? oh well
