Maybe. Maybe not.

There are a lot of Mechanics on this board. Most don't mention their experience or qualifications, regularly. Or in some (most?) cases, ever.

Posting often is not an indication of ones qualifications or experience.

Having said that, I like Larry. One of these days when I have some free time, and want to ride some of the great roads in California, I hope I can convince him to show me some of his favorites. Or at least suggest some.

Mercy Shan... I'm nothing but a towering mass of respect for Honda's
engineers and science... in fact back in 86 I was at Daytona 200 and
managed a meeting with a team of HRC Engineers on the possibility of
me, a dumb guy with a Lathe and Mill; converting their VF500F
Interceptor from chain to a belt because I believed chains are a
pain and belts spell relief... I was searching for the nodes of my
mind to fit the valley others but they stated to me, "No it would be
impossible to add a belt drive to their bike because first you start
with a belt and then design the whole bike around it." I thought OK
the experts have spoken but you see I have a certain brain disorder
namely a mind unable to rest when faced with a problem... I wasn't
bent on proving them or their science observations wrong... I had a
dream of a maintenance free belt drive... all it took was 8 months of
engineering and machining parts to transform their Interceptor
into the infamous Belt-0-Ceptor... I racked up 98,000 trouble free
miles... you should have seen the look on those engineer's faces when
they got to inspect THEIR bike... they asked "what's next?" build my own
frame I shot back... "OK" they said "you probably could do that".

The 500 Interceptor which Honda predicted would be impossible to convert into the Belt-0-Ceptor

Smokey was one of my heros, as well.....And he was the embodiment of the self taught scientist. His stuff worked because the science was sound.
