When has an additive ever helped you?

Donald, most definitely for the engine unless you poor Kool-Aid down your crankcase.

It strikes me that there are certain specific situations where a product (with a specific additive) may help. But the broad generalizations that are used to market products today steer a lot of people off course.

What would you guys think about having some type of certification process that would test products and ensure that they could do the very things they state on their bottle?

Thoughts? Great thread by the way.

1) Techron cured a chronic pinging situation; it took me 18 years of constant and nagging pinging to figure a simple and cheap snake oil could work.

I got religion and now use it every 5K miles.

2) Top tier fuel to keep said pinging in remission. Mobil - that's all we have here, at reasonable locations.

Other vehicle doesn't need any adds or TT fuel. Go figure.

Lucas trans fix brought my trans back from the dead.

Lucas oil stabilizer slows oil consumption

Various coolant based stop leaks have worked well over the years

Oil based stop leak work on front and rear crank seals.

Only in older cars with problems. Never in a car that has no problem.

Cooling system additive or oil additive? Maybe the thread should be moved to the oil additive section? Or stay here and just discuss cooling system additives? I'm confused.......

Viagra...oops wrong site...J/K....
LG Red helped my problematic Honda A/T last until I sold it at 109K. Stabil has always helped in stored vehicles and OPE. Oil additives are usually not necessary, IMO....
Barsleaks helped slow the IM gasket seepage in my Buick 3.1...

Mos2 smoothed out the lawn mower. Big difference in my 77 dodge 360 v8. Its old probably could a refresh and amazing stuff to a c15 cat. Smoother idle, acceleration, turbo seem to spin up smoother and faster, over all very pleased

Yep.

Mos2 helped my Cub-Cadet self propelled lawnmower with the Powermore chonda engine stop smoking at start up (after setting a while or cold). It's smoked since a year after I purchased it. Purchased in 2008.

Mechanic in a Bottle - has helped my OPE engines with old gas left in them. Especially the Hondas.
