TRIBOLOGICAL PERFORMANCE OF IONISED VEGETABLE OILS

They say "A good friction modifier is expected to combine a sufficiently high adsorptivity to metal surfaces (which is largely controlled by its polarity)...."

In terms of their own model/diagrams, in real lubricants, isn't absorptivity to the EP layer of more practical relevance? I'd think that might not always be the same thing.

the friction modification soap gets replaced by an anti wear layer in areas where the pressure/temperature is too high and the FM layer gets stripped. If the pressure heat is higher still, the EP additives start to kick in.

friction goes up though, and wear starts. every application of AW or EP additives is triggered by abrasive wear. Adsoprtion of a FM layer isn't triggered by wear.
