I've been out of detailing for a few years, but would like to get back into it. I got a 7424XP as a present and need to get some pads and a backing plate. I don't need anything too intensive - just looking to do some correcting from a winter of car washes, etc. Anyone have any recommendations?

I was maybe thinking something like this: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Hex_Logic_Buffing_Pad_Kit_p/buf_hexkits_5.htm

I already have quite a bit of Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and Polish but would get something else if it would work better with certain pads.

I've used lake country pads and they work pretty well but I've had trouble with their velcro backing coming unglued after a few uses. Right now I'm using the Hex Logic pads like you linked to but a different set from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-BUFHEXKITS8P-Hex-Logic-Buffing/dp/B00BTGDR9A/ I've only used them a couple times so far but am liking them very much. I do not recall which backing plate I use because I've had my 7424xp for a very long time now.

The new Meguiars low profile DA foam pads would be outstanding in this application. The low profile design really improves cut and pad rotation in DA applications.

I've had okay luck and achieved okay results with a cheap Astro Pneumatic backing plate and (believe it or not) Harbor Freight pads. They're available and often on sale.

But, that Chemical Guys kit is pretty tempting for $40 (plus tax) shipped.
