Some people would site redline as an example of how small companies can survive like Amsoil has. But lets be realistic, no one uses redline. Their market share is small and their following is cult like at best. If you dont get into big box retailers or chains like autozone, oreillys, pep boys, etc. your either going under or losing billions in revenue.
And lets remember that small oil companies CAN compete with the giants like SOPUS, XOM etc. Royal Purple (a local business in my area) started off as a small batch plant and a family run business (Heck, the owner of RP and I used to go the same gym) and went on to become a nationally available high quality motor oil. Now you can find it at any retailer (large or small) and it is cometitively priced with other top shelf synthetics. No MLM garbage, no mail order, just good oil on the shelf ready for consumption.
