Hi HD users,

We are building up an old 1980 Silverado D40 v8 Short Chassis here at Antalya, Turkey ... It has an Hummer engine on it (which is newer than the truck, most probably it is from 1990's). Engine is in good condition and the rest of the truck is fine but we could not find any technical specs about the oil capacity

We can not trust the oil dipstick itself 'cause it does not seem to be original, so I made a web search to be sure about the min-max capacity but found nothing.

During our check we drained aprx 3.5 Liters used oil from the engine and this seemed a little low to me for a v8 6.2 engine ...

Engine Number : 6hum919

Do you have any documents, links or knowledge about the oil capacity of this engine ? Any help will be great.

Best wishes and safe roads.

PS: This is my first post, if I'm breaking any rules please let me know.

Thanks Mike ... We were quessing around 6 liters and read that max 7 quarts (aprx 6.5 liters) is ok.

I will check other topics on Dieselpage too.

Safe roads, best wishes

Last time I worked on one, it took 8 quarts of oil. That is about 7.5 liters.

Some variants take more than others because of oil filter size and if the engine has an oil cooler.

Hi again,

We just used 6.5 liters oil, after finding a new compatible filter.

It runs fine and as expected the noise of the Hummer engine is great

Have some more work to do mostly on electric and trim ...

Thanks again for your assist and replies, I saved all the page links for future use.

Best wishes
