What is the difference between Performance Improvement (PI) and Detergent/Dispersant/Inhibitor (DI) commercial additive packages?

1. One refers to oil additives, the other refers to fuel additives,

2. It depends on the Literature and the usage by the Author or supplier,

3. Neither one refers to any additive package whether lubricants, fuels, or otherwise,

4. None of the above.

Guidelines for the Question of the Day:

2. Please respond with a complete sentence or explanation.

3. Please do not post links. If a question arises as to the need for clarification, then sources and links may be requested.

That being said, many will choose 1 since most authors use them in that context.

The basic additive package that comes from the supplier usually contains everything but the base oils and the VII.

In some cases, the author or supplier will refer to the basic additive package as the "DI" package, and define the PI package as the total basic (DI) additive package plus the VII.

So in many cases, the author or supplier needs to define the "package," or surround it with a context which defines it.

In a recent article in TLT, the author said this about commercial lubricant additives in general:

Quote:
...additives are chemicals that are deliberately added to the oil to enhance [improve base oil] properties and inhibit degradation of base oils.
