I asked this in the Gumout Q&A but I'll start a related topic here.
I have been doing a lot of reading about various oil ring sticking/carbon/coking issues and what people are doing to fix them. Seems products used and results are all over the place, from MMO to Seafoam to you-name-it with everything for 100% fixed to hydro locked engines.
Lets not delve into if piston soak is good or bad or better or worse than in the oil or if its "X" amount of oil in "Y" amount of time. Will a PEA type cleaner in engine oil work to dissolve carbonaceous deposits, mostly coking, of rings? It does for valves right? Why would it not for rings? Or is there some fundamental difference I am ignorant of?
