Post Your Latest Coolant Change.

Call me lazy but Ive never pulled the lower or upper radiator hose just to do a coolant service.

I just drain, refill with tap, drain that, and then refill with an appropriate 50/50 that I mix on the spot.

Any real benefit to pulling the hose? I figure it adds risk...

Lowers risk. You don't wear out or risk stripping out the plastic threads of the drain plug. If you have the old fashioned petcock (metal), there's the risk of rust seizure.

What's also nice is with the lower hose off you can put your garden hose in the filler and use your garden hose for a power flush rather than wait for it to dribble out of the pin hole (also can jam the garden hose in the lower hose for a block flush of sorts).

Even worse, sometimes the radiator could even crack when pulling the drain plug, if it was a weak radiator with plastic end caps and several years of use.
