I know there must be some kind of calculation for this. Does anybody know how I might find out exactly how many cubic feet/gallons/liters of gas at a certain pressure that you can get from a pound of CO2? More specifically, I'd like to know how many gallons of 100psi gas are in a pound.

PV = nRT
weight = mass * gravity

find out molecular weight of CO2, find out how many moles I think are in a pound, back it out thru the gas law. You also have to specify a temp.

1 ft^3 = 7.480519 gallons

1 litre = 0.2641721 gallons

Wish I knew what a mole, and the gas law is.

ZmOz,
CO2 has a molar weight of 44 grammes.
A pound is 454 grammes, so you've got 10.3 moles.

At Standard Temp and Pressure, that's 231 litres, or nearly 61 gallons (US).

If the 100psi is guage (i.e. 100psi above atmosphere), the volume is just under 8 gallons.

ZmOz: Just what are you trying to do?

Carbonate your homebrew with dry ice???

I find that a tank of CO2 with the regulator set to 30psi can get cold beer carbonated in a day. Just shake the keg every hour or so.

Perfect...thanks.

Trying to figure out how large of a CO2 tank I want to fill tires.
