Not sure if this is the right filter for the application but it is half as deep as all of my replacement filters that cross reference the oe filter it came out of a 2011 3.7 v6 ford f150

That is not the part number. The engineering number, AL34-9601-CA, crosses over to FA-1883 which is the correct Motorcraft number for your truck.

Per Ford:

ENGINEERING NUMBER UPDATED PER PNAEF AND DR01 E 12209265 000
THE SERVICE FILTER IS A DIFFERENT DESIGN AND IS TOTALLY
INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE PRODUCTION PART
 
Wondering why a lot of these filters look so oily? How's oil and grease getting into these intakes? Could it be that burn off from a leaky gasket is being ingested into the engine?
