I own a 91 Civic Hatchback Si with a hard to depress clutch pedal.
I believe that the hard to depress clutch pedal led to my pedal assemble to bend and crack.

I want to replace the pedal assembly but get to the root of the problem.

I have replaced the clutch and components about 6 months ago.

could it be a clutch cable problem here or a lubrication issue in the pedal assembly linkages.

Please advise

That is almost certainly the problem. Eventually the cable frays and wears through its sheath and starts binding.

Here's a test you can try:
1) unclip the cable from its U-shaped brackets on the valve cover
2) flex the cable upwards towards the underside of the hood, so it follows a very different curve than it did before, and Zip-tie it in that position. The point is to make the cable bear on a different part of the sheath than it does normally.
3) step on the clutch pedal.

Any change in the pedal feel?
If yes, then the cable is worn-out.
If no, then the problem may be that the fingers on the release-fork have run out of lubrication.

Changing the cable isn't difficult, but you do need to do it in a certain order.
