We don't eat a ton of bread, but do like toast, english muffins, etc on occasion.

We had a cheap Oster, and now are suffering through what I thought was a decent ($50) Kitchen Aide.

This thing will barely toast one side of a slice of bread.

My goal is to spend less than $100 on a 2 slice model that will actually toast bread to varying degrees of darkness. Lasting more than 6 months would be nice as well.

Drive for 2 minutes in either direction, and start looking for a store. As soon as you see one go in. Ask the vest(apron) wearing dude (gal) where the taoasters are. Buy it.

^^^^^ Just kidding, we have a regular toaster... Although it did get me thinking why a bagel toasted at a restaurant is better than one done at home. The extra wattage toasts it so fast that bagel dries out less.
We also did wire the kitchen for an electric stove even though we use a gas one... Hmm... who knows we might end up with a 240V toaster after all some day.

Right now we have a black and decker $50-60 2 slicer, bought on sale, that seems to work fine. I picked it mostly because it wasn't the cheapest, had a 1 year warranty, and its all chrome so it looks like a half decent toaster.

Watts/slice is king in a toaster. Years ago many small 2-slice toasters took 1200+ watts but they got cut down in an attempt to save energy. That makes for a poor toaster IMO. Generally, you need to look for a toaster that takes as many watts as possible.

We're still using the same 4-slice Toastmaster we got as a wedding gift 25 years ago. Sorry, not much help on what's out there nowdays.

Come to think of it, we found a (working) GE toaster in my parents' stuff that *they* probably got for their wedding in 1948.... I'll probably put it into service if our Toastmaster ever dies rather than by the hecho en China stuff out there now.

At work in the kitchenette we have a (hamilton beach) Proctor Silex model 22779 2 slot bagel toaster that works real well. Ill dig up a photo.

I have a panasonic flashxpress nb-g100p and really like it for toast, bagels, small pizzas etc. I don't use it everyday so i can't say how long it will last under daily use, but i've used it a few times a month for the past 3 years and no issues.

2700W and we could do 380 slices an hour...
I'd never go back to a regular 120V toaster after using this one.

That one sounds wimpy. Go with this one instead.

I prefer toasters with service manuals of 15 or fewer pages.

You can still buy these on Ebay for less than half the price you're willing to pay. Mine (in the photo) was new in about 1949, and other than the plug it's never needed a repair. After more than 65 years it still toasts quite nicely, and has most certainly lasted more than 6 months.

It's a Proctor 1481 and has been in the family since it was new.

Agree!
Plus, you'll use it more often as well for other foods or small meals.
