How difficult is it to replace the oxygen sensors on the 2.3L in an Escape? The escape has enough miles on it I'm thinking it might be a good idea to replace them soon.

Because they get lazy over time without throwing codes. They then hurt fuel mileage by running richer than they need to.

follow the exhaust manifold from the engine. you'll find both sensors. have pb blaster ready, the right sockets, and a cheater bar. good luck.

Q.

I'd still replace it if it's the top one.

There are only two I think and I was going to replace both if it was easy enough.

There is a reason why Ford calls the rear O2 a catalyst monitor. It does not check fuel trim, just monitors catalyst efficiency.

Did you replace it yet? If so did it make a difference? Probably too early to tell, but I've got 140K miles on a Bosch O2 sensor with no dash light and have been wondering if I should get a new one. 30MPG in an Escort isn't too good.
