Im doing a rear main seal on my 98 Olds intrigue and started replacing other things that would be hard to get to with the transmission in there. I'm looking at getting new struts (complete with spring) and they are around 220 at autozone for one. What's the best place to get decent struts either local or online?

Check out amazon, shipping is free from some parts vendors on there. Shipping will erase whatever savings you'd see from rockauto.

This ^^

Here is a RockAuto discount code for 5% off: 2981846011943598 - Expires May 24, 2015

Still, Amazon can often beat out RockAuto even with the discount due to shipping costs.

Thanks for the suggestions, should I go with monroe, Gabriel or fcs? Fcs is nice price wise but don't want to cut too manY corners.

Partsgeek had the best deal for me. I was able to get Bilsteins from mom's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee for ~$110 each. The shipping was totally free.

As for brand choice, I wouldn't use FCS, but I wouldn't see any problem using Monroe or Gabriel. I find that cheap shocks/struts last no more than 30,000 miles and often fail before that.

did you go with bilsteins because of the price?

For that car, Bilsteins cost about the same as Monroe and Gabriel. I chose Bilstein because I have always heard they were better than most brands. Also, since the SRT-8 model had Bilsteins from the factory, I was certain that they would perform just like OE.

I'd go with Gabriel personally. It can be a [censored] shoot. I just bought some moog strut assemblies, they were the cheapest of the 'good ones' and one of the mounts was faulty and started creaking like an old wooden ship on the high seas after a week.

Excellent imagery here. Good turn of phrase!

See if you can ship your rockauto order to your work instead of home. This can save real money!

Hmmm! How's that?
I have never heard of this option. Does RA have a discount shipping to business?

Just asking!

Well for me just typing in my work's zip code is enough, saves a few bucks.

But I ordered some brake drums (warehouse A) and wheel cylinders (warehouse B) and the shipping quote got cheaper, but when I checked out my shopping cart with complete address a few more bucks got knocked off. You have to go (nearly) "all the way" to see the better pricing.

I live 12 miles from work, but work is 2 miles from the airport and both Fedex and UPS hubs. Even though I think stuff was shipped ground.

The drums were $11 on RA and $19 on amazon, so even though I have Prime/ free shipping, RA came out ahead.

Human Resources might have a stated policy that employees don't get mail at work, but I think it's just to cover their rears legally if they lose your stuff. If a box shows up with your name on it, they'd be heels to not give it to you.

I've had a few retailers tell me they get a break on shipping charges if its going to a business address. Its because the residential addresses all too often involve extra handling when no one is home and the item has to go back to the hub for pickup.

The flip side to all this are the retailers who won't ship anything to a business because the address doesn't match my credit card billing address. What is this, the 1970s? Oh well, they snooze, they lose. I'll buy from someone else instead.

The shipping to my area/region is the same from RA. My previous work(see sig) was a different zip code but, still in the same basic region and the shipping would be the same. I have used different zip codes in my Upstate area and there's no difference!
