Can DexVI be used in a 1998 Aisen-Warner AW30-40 (Volvo) automatic transmission originally spec'd for DEXIII?

Are there any issues with seal compatibility?

Thanks, DEWFPO

I haven't seen any issues. I've been using MerconV and DexronVI in plenty of older AW's and all worked perfectly.

Yes/ No issues

Has anybody used DexVI successfully in a Corolla (or any other Toyota) which specs T-IV?

Have used MaxLife LV (Low Viscosity ATF that is rated as Dex VI) in my 2012 and 2013 Corolla's 4-speed auto trans with no problems; in fact, shifts are smoother with MaxLife's Full Synthetic ATF that with factory WS fluid.

Citation needed.

The (starting) viscosity is a bit low, but the average operational viscosity is probably not low. Pretty sure Dex III sheers down pretty fast. There are probably millions of cars on the road running this. If this were a problem they would be popping off left and right!

Maybe in cars it was designed for, and what do you mean by "pretty fast"?

Been using Maxlife ATF in an AW (2000 Tundra) with no issues; owner reported shifting much better; original DIII fluid had probably over 100K miles on it.

Actually, now that I check, the 1998 AW30-40 was Spec'd to use DexII and not DexIII.

Thanks for all the input.

The starting viscosity of Maxlife and DexronVI are lower than DexronIII but they hardly shear at all, especially Maxlife which has superior shear stability due to better base oils.

Both of those fluids are close to 6 cSt @100ºC starting viscosity while a mineral based DexronIII would start at 7.5 cSt it would easily shear below 5 cSt within 30 k miles.

The shear stable fluids are superior to DexronIII in every way.
