I was looking for spark plugs for my 96 grand marquis and found 2 motorcraft types. They make a double platinum which I believe is the OEM but they also have a nickel version. Both are the same price $5 per plug. Is there any rason to go with nickel over platinum?

Go with the SP-432, might be listed under the long number of AGSF-32FM. The latest version of this plug has the full length threads and is the direct supercession of the factory installed plug.

Use the double plats. Glad you are using Motorcraft plugs in the Mercury.
I put Bosch +4 plugs in my Sable with the Spock engine. She did NOT like those. Put in the MC and she purrs.

Does 1996 have COPs or the 2 coil packs? If it has the 2 coil packs, then definitely get the double plats as you have a waste-spark system that fires half the plugs with reverse polarity.

If you have COPs, then a single plat is fine.

PLUG (literally):
OP: I am about 90% sure I have a brand new set of 8 AGSF-32FM double plats for sale. (got it for my 97 Tbird, but never installed) - just FYI.

These are a single platinum.

If you want double platinum's, you'll have to opt for Autolite.
Possible APP104- be sure to look them up.
