I found a case of reasonably priced Mercon SP ATF for my son's 2004 BMW.
It has a GM automatic and when i bought the oil I assumed it had a ZF. European car with a GM trans?
Any how, I have used Mercon SP in ZF transmissions and it worked great. So, I assumed that the Mercon SP would work better than the DEXRON-III oem spec. used in this AT back in 2004. Some of the guys on the BMW forum are blasting me for what I did.
The transmission has 107k on it and is shifting much smoother now and I have not noticed any slipping or shuttering.
